Greater Bombay Science Teachers’ Association has been organizing the Dr. Homi Bhabha Balvaidnyanik Competition(DHBBC) since 1981. This special four-stage competition is designed to promote young scientists’ curiosities and problem-solving attitudes as well as the development of their fine motor and observational skills.

Eligibility for DHBBC

The Homi Bhabha Balvaidnyanik Competition is held for students in grades 6thand 9th, with the goal of nurturing an interest in science among the children. Students from all Boards (SSC, CBSE, ICSE, IB, etc.) are assessed based on how well they perform on written exams, practical exams, and interviews plus projects.

Homi Bhabha Selection Process

The Homi Bhabha Balvaidnyanik Competition is conducted in four phases; Theory competition, Practical competition, General interview, Evaluation and interview on action research project.

Written test :-  It consists of 100 multiple choice questions based on science and General knowledge as per class standard. Top 7.5% students per region Marathi medium, English medium (Maharashtra SSC Board, English Medium (All other Boards) will be selected for phase II.

Practical test :- 30% of marks obtained in phase I plus phase II scores will be taken into consideration for phase III and phase IV selection. Top 10% of students based on merit will be chosen for phases III and IV.

General Interview & Evaluation of action research project:-  According to merit, the top 10% of candidates will receive a gold medal, a certificate, and a scholarship worth Rs. 3000. This is calculated by adding the 30% of Phase I’s marks to the marks earned in Phases II, III, and IV.

Exam Fees

Exam Fee for all places and every type of school (with the standard fee) is 320 Rs whereas for individual student registration (students who are unable to get their names registered through their school) is 500 Rs.
