The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a centralized national-level entrance exam conducted by the Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) for admissions to undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) law programs across 25 NLUs and various affiliated institutions.

The Judge Advocate General (JAG) entry is a specialized recruitment process for law graduates to serve as legal officers in the Indian Army. Candidates are selected based on their CLAT PG scores, followed by interviews and medical examinations.

Eligibility Criteria

CLAT 2025 Undergraduate (UG) Program:

  • Educational Qualification: Candidates must have passed the 10+2 examination or an equivalent examination from a recognized board.

  • Minimum Marks Required:

    • General/OBC/PWD/NRI/PIO/OCI: At least 45% marks.

    • SC/ST: At least 40% marks.

  • Age Limit: No upper age limit.

  • Appearing Candidates: Students appearing in the 10+2 examination in March/April 2025 are eligible to apply.

JAG Entry (Indian Army):

    • Educational Qualification: Candidates must possess an LL.B degree with a minimum of 55% marks.

    • Age Limit: 21 to 27 years as of 1st July 2025.

    • Additional Requirements: Candidates must be eligible for registration with the Bar Council of India/State. They should be physically fit as per the prescribed standards.

Exam Paper Pattern

CLAT 2025 UG Exam Pattern:

  • Total Questions: 120 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).

  • Duration: 2 hours.

  • Marking Scheme: +1 mark for each correct answer; -0.25 marks for each incorrect answer.

  • Sections:

    • English Language: 22-26 questions.

    • Current Affairs, including General Knowledge: 28-32 questions.

    • Legal Reasoning: 28-32 questions.

    • Logical Reasoning: 22-26 questions.

    • Quantitative Techniques: 10-14 questions.

JAG Entry Selection Process:

  • Shortlisting: Based on CLAT PG scores.

  • SSB Interview: Shortlisted candidates undergo a 5-day Service Selection Board (SSB) interview.

  • Medical Examination: Candidates recommended by the SSB undergo a medical examination.

  • Merit List: Final selection is based on the candidate’s performance in the CLAT PG, SSB interview, and medical fitness.
