Rashtriya Military schools were eastablished as King George’s Royal Indian Military schools to take care of the education of the sons of defence personnel. In 1952, the schools were reorganized on Public School lines and admissions were made open to the sons of Defence Service Officers and civilians. In 1954, the school became member of the Indian Public Schools Conference (IPSC) and continues to be an active member till date. The schools were renamed Military Schools in 1966 and its old motto, ‘Play the Game’ was replaced with ‘Sheelem Param Bhushanam’ which means Character is the Highest Virtue. On 25th Jun 2007, the schools got their present name “Rashtriya Military School”. The school has several of its alumni occupying high positions in the Armed Forces and in other sectors doing stellar service to the motherland.. SAINIK SCHOOL
The Sainik Schools Society is an organization under the Ministry of Defence. The Chief Executive Body of the Sainik Schools Society is a Board of Governors functioning under the Chairmanship of the Defence Minister. For exercising closer control and supervision over the affairs of Sainik Schools there is an Executive Committee under the Chairmanship of Defence Secretary. The day-to-day work of the Society is managed by Dir (Trg) & Hony Secy who is assisted by Inspecting Officers, Under Secretary, Sainik Schools Society (Sainik School Cell). The staff for the cell is provided by the MoD. The local administration of the school is looked after by a Local Board of Administration whose Chairman is the GoC-in-C of the concerned Command where the Sainik School is located. Sainik schools resources allow cadets to develop their skills in sports, academics and other extracurricular activities. Infrastructure in Sainik Schools include running tracks, cross-country tracks, indoor games, parade grounds, boxing rings, firing ranges, canoeing clubs, horse riding clubs, mountaineering clubs, trekking and hiking club, obstacles courses, football, hockey and cricket fields, as well as volleyball and basketball courts. Cadets also become a part of NCC. A cadet who complete their 12th standard usually possess a NCC B certificate.
SPI
After NDA was established at Khadakwasla, Pune in 1954, it was observed that though NDA was in Maharashtra, Maharashtra was not in NDA as the number of Maharashtrian boys getting in to NDA was minuscule. The Government of Maharashtra decided to form a committee to study the issue in depth and suggest the solutions and methods that could address this issue. Accordingly a committee was formed under the chairmanship of Lt Gen SPP Thorat, (Retd), Kirti Chakra, Padmashree, DSO, D’Lit.
On the recommendations of the committee the unique Services Preparatory Institute was established at Aurangabad in 1977 with the aim of preparing boys academically, mentally and physically for entry into the National Defence Academy and other Defence Academies.
The Institute provides personalized coaching for UPSC (NDA) written entrance examination. The training and the curriculum at the SPI is formulated in such a way that, they are automatically prepared to appear before the Services Selection Board (SSB) interviews.
